SEND & Gifted and Talented

At Boothferry Primary School, we believe:

All children and young people are entitled to an education that enables them to make progress so that they:

  • Achieve their best;
  • Become confident individuals living fulfilling lives, and;
  • Make a successful transition into adulthood, whether into employment, further or higher education or training.

SEND Code of Practice 2015, page 92.

At Boothferry Primary School, the great majority of students will learn and progress well within the mainstream curriculum. Those who do not may have special or additional educational needs that need to be addressed.

There are four broad areas of SEN need outlined in the SEND Code of Practice 2015, as outlined below:

  • Communication and Interaction
  • Cognition and Learning
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health
  • Sensory and/or Physical.

Miss Fidler, SEND Co-ordinator, works alongside your child’s Class Teacher and Support Staff in supporting their learning and progress. This support could be provided in a number of different ways; working in groups in the classroom, small group withdrawal work and 1:1 work. If you would like to contact Miss Fidler, her e-mail address is: boothferry_senco.primary@eastriding.gov.uk

In order to meet the needs of your child we may, with your full consent, ask other services and professionals for their support. These services may include the Educational Psychologist, the Behaviour Advisory Teacher, a Speech and Language Therapist and the Sensory and Physical Support Service (SAPTS).
